Uh oh- what if the new miracle in forensic science turns out to not be what it seems? DNA has been hailed as the key to freedom for many wrongfully convicted individuals although there are many cases where DNA simply does not play a role. Could there be cases where DNA has actually led to wrongful convictions instead of freedom? Interesting article in New Scientist magazine that discusses the other side of DNA. The magazine did an investigation where they sent one DNA sample to 17 different labs and the result was not the same in each lab, in fact depending on the lab chosen a person could have been likely convicted or not based on the lab results. crazy!! Just another example of how subjective everything is and how susceptible to human error or interpretations our criminal justice system is.
