Has no one in the government read Aruther Miller’s The Crucible??? I keep coming back to this play about the Salem witch trials as a touchstone on wrongful incarcerations. Eye witness misidentifications play a huge role in why many people have served time belonging to someone else. What about when the “witness” just plain lies as in The Crucible- here’s a quick review since it seems to not be popular reading- some girls get together and decide to testify in court that another girl is a witch because they saw her doing witchy things (a complete lie) and the girl is then executed- that’s my memory but its been a while since being in the play my freshman year of highschool. My point is this, since someone said it happened doesn’t mean it happened- there needs to be more than one person’s word against anothers. Here is the crazy tale playing out in Arizona at the moment- a woman (sheriff) framed her husband for some unsolved murders claiming he confessed to her (she had details being a sheriff and all) and he has spent 20 plus years in prison for a crime he did not comit and missing seeing his son grow up. Oh and the governor of Arizona will not pardon him even though her own clemency board asked her to. So he continues to serve time for a crime he had nothing, nada, zero to do with. What is wrong with people??????? To read more details check out this NY Times article. Pray for the ignorant and evil Dallas. Peace.
