How is that for a creative title:) ? Okay, the jail is falling apart. Again today there was no metal detector in the lobby. In its place an officer with a wand. Filling out the visitation form there was a slightly weird happening. No minors are allowed to visit during the week ( I am not sure what the age cut off for a minor is – apparently not 17) maybe that is why there are people with kids sitting on the floor dotting the hallway maze to the paper check point- they didn’t know and are waiting for another family member visiting? So I can’t see who this was said to but one of the officers told someone “If you leave her here we are going to arrest you when you come back down. Minors can’t visit during the week and you can’t leave her alone.” I am thinking this must be a toddler or something- but the two people who walked away after that looked like teenagers. Once up stairs it was like a ghost town. There were 3 occupied booths and one was the dreaded booth of last resorts with the grate behind the glass that plays tricks on one’s eyes. No idea why that was doled out when there were so many normal booths available. I was promptly seated at #10. After reading a sign printed in English and Spanish saying that there is no visitation this weekend at all. The sign gave no explanation why but Ben later said because they are moving some inmates to another jail in Dallas. I feel badly for the people with kids who are going to show up and be turned away this weekend. When Ben arrived we went through our normal ritual ( I got this from him actually) of wiping off the receiver before talking. The jail really is super dirty and I wonder why it has to be that way. We talked about pieces of his case and pieces of life. He is anxious to hear from the CCA about his case. After almost an hour more people had started to show up and someone was waiting to use out booth. Walking to the parking lot I mused again to myself how ironic it is that pretty much everyone jay walks in front of the jail and seemingly no law enforcement cares. I don’t know what that means but I am pretty sure it is a metaphor for something askew in our society. This is all too deep for a 10 am. Have a blessed weekend Dallas!
